Abstract

Biaro Island is an island located 90 kilometers from North Sulawesi and limited transportation access. The island of Biaro has not been connected to the submarine power cable network so that the supply of electricity depends on the diesel generator for 12 hours. PLN plans to provide electricity supply for 24 hours without the need to increase fuel consumption because of environmental issues and fossil fuel elevated costs. This hybrid system is combined with solar photovoltaic, wind turbine, battery and diesel generator. Homer is used to examine the most cost effective configurations among a set of systems for electricity requirement of 1,775 kWh/day primary load with 240.64 kW peak load. The results show that system with the composition of PV-Wind-Diesel-battery with a cost of electricity of 0.204 $ / kWh is feasible to be used as an alternative power system scheme to reduce fuel consumption on Biaro Island.
