Abstract: The article describes a hitherto unknown inhibitory effect of chemokine ligand 4 (CXCL4) on respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection, replication, and disease. Topics include CXCL4 inhibited replication of Enterovirus 71 (EV71) and Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV1); and CXCL4 protects against RSV infection through inhibition of RSV attachment to heparan sulfate (HS) on the surface of target cells.
