This article presents information about a an edge-lit backlight panel using surface mount LEDs introduced by Great Britain based Optoelectronic Manufacturing Corp. The surface mount backlight is offered as an alternative to the company's existing range of side firing pinned leg backlights. Powering the new backlight panels is a special range of surface mount side-firing backlight LEDs and light-guides, developed by OMC, offering seven colors including white. The backlight LEDs are optimized for use with the firm's light-guides and diffuser technology to give consistent illumination across the backlight.
