Abstract

If the fatty acid supply of mitochondrial acetyl CoA stops, while the glycolytic supply of acetyl CoA is also closed, the tumor cell mitochondria will have to get their acetyl CoA from ketolysis. Finally, we should point that even with SCOT and ATP citrate lyase inhibition, tumor cells still possess a salvage pathway for making acetyl CoA in the cytosol, from acetate directly taken up and processed by an acetyl CoA synthetase.
