Abstract
- This article discusses the book "Guide to Politics 1954," edited by Quincy Howe and Arthur M. Schlesingeir Jr. This book is based on the confident conviction that the key to the congressional elections of 1954 is the independent voters. Time was, within the memory of millions, when independents in politics were rare and "mugwump" was a smear word. A large body of independents, that the two major parties must endeavor to condliate, is necessary to a healthy two-party system. But the independent pays a high price for his independence.
