Abstract

The author describes his use of puppetry and mask in his adaptation of William Shakespeare's "The Tempest," titled "Stuff as Dreams Are Made On." Topics discussed include his attempt to interrupt Shakespeare's text with a dialogue between the actor and puppets and with the audience, the various characters he portrays in the play, and the various issues addressed in the play such as sexual identity, violence against women, and free will.
