Abstract

The article describes the case of a 24-year-old Chinese man who presented with right-sided periorbital oedema and erythema previously treated as cellulitis. Topics covered include findings of the physical and laboratory tests which led to the diagnosis of anti-melanoma differentiation-associated protein 5 (MDA-5)-positive dermatomyositis (DM), clinical patterns and serologic markers of DM, and patient outcome following the administration of rituximab and prednisone.
