Abstract

[(Ph<subscript>3</subscript>P)AuPt(nbe)<subscript>3</subscript>][BAr<subscript>4</subscript><superscript>F</superscript>] (nbe = norbornene) constitutes the first olefin-containing, formal Au<superscript>+I</superscript>Pt<superscript>0</superscript> complex. The unusual coordination mode and the electronic properties have been analyzed spectroscopically and by calculations. The low binding energy of the nbe ligands make this complex a valuable precursor for formal Au<superscript>+I</superscript>Pt<superscript>0</superscript> complexes and a candidate for heterobimetallic catalysis.
