Abstract
- Photoluminescence and X-ray-induced scintillation properties of xCe:20BaO-15Gd<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>3</subscript>-65SiO<subscript>2</subscript> (x = 0, 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.5) glasses were investigated. The glass samples emitted light via energy transfer from Gd<superscript>3+</superscript> in the host to Ce<superscript>3+</superscript>. The <superscript>6</superscript>P<subscript>7/2</subscript>-<superscript>8</superscript>S<subscript>7/2</subscript> relaxation of Gd<superscript>3+</superscript> was confirmed notably in the undoped glass sample, but the emission due to Gd<superscript>3+</superscript> disappeared upon the addition of Ce. Furthermore, the decay time constant of Gd<superscript>3+</superscript> decreased with increasing Ce concentration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
