- Dear Editor, Extension contracture of the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints impairs the function of a hand. Graph: Figure 2.A 39-year-old woman (case #1 in Table 1) sustained a right 3rd and 4th metacarpal fracture with subsequent right 3rd MCP joint extension contracture.
