Abstract

Veress was a Hungarian physician who designed this needle to prevent damage to the lungs or abdominal organs, either during drainage from the thoracic or peritoneal cavity or decompression of pneumothorax [[2]]. The commonly stated reason behind shunning the Veress needle is safety, with many citing the risk of visceral injury, vascular injury, and air embolism. This review found a 0.2% risk of vascular injury, a 0.4% risk of visceral injury, and a 1.7% risk of failed entry with a Veress needle. [Extracted from the article]
