Abstract

Changing population structure will lead to problems in the lack of personnel taking care of elderly people and in the lack of taxpayers to guarantee the economic growth to cover the costs of welfare society. Digitalization seems to be a key to the effective and efficient service development in the society. The younger generation is familiar with eServices online, but elderly people are less experienced in working with smart devices. Based on facilitated futures workshops held in Finland in March and in China in May 2019, we found alternative visionary concepts to meet these future challenges. These concepts include new business opportunities in the terms of sustainable development, i.e. they will cover innovation ideas from economic, social and/or ecological viewpoint. Methods used in the sessions combine futures research tools and service design together, e.g. taboo analysis, futures headlines approach, visionary concept design and persona cards were used.
