Abstract

The article discusses the chapter "Fundamentals of Color" of the book "Display Interfaces." color is such an important factor in electronic displays, and especially in terms of understanding many of the constraints which must be considered in designing an adequate display interface. The first, and possibly the most fundamental, understanding that one must gain in a study of color is that color does not really exist; it is not, contrary to what would be indicated by lay usage of the term, a fundamental physical property of any object. Instead, color is a perception. It truly exists only in the mind of the viewer, and is simply the response of the eye or brain system to stimulation over an extremely narrow range of electromagnetic radiation.
