Abstract

The article presents helpful guidelines to help the social workers in instituting an institute. Two ingredients are essential: a "cover" and efficient administrative machinery. A cover is a well-known figure in the field, a new brand of therapy popularly described in a best seller, or adherence to a serious, privileged subfield, still a little arcane and scary, preferably psychoanalytic. Human relations personnel do a lot of consulting work, but they also set up workshops to help people's interpersonal relations. The various psychodrama and theater-games outfits are first cousins and are busily elaborating their structures. Last year a small group of professionals in the fields of community organization and development, laboratory education, and personal growth groups formed the International Association of Applied Social Scientists. Much more important than the cover, organizationally, is an efficient administrator who does all the scut work.
