Abstract

The article discusses finding of a research which suggests that rapid cycling bipolar disorder is associated with female gender and bipolar type II subgroup. Rapid cycling is clinically significant and understudied variant of bipolar disorder. There is controversy regarding definition of rapid cycling. The importance of rapid cycling refelects defferences in clinical features, course and outcome is covered in this article. Association of antidepressants with rapid cycling has been argued to reflect the depressive predominance in rapid cycling.
