Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of case management model in prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) after surgery for cervical cancer. Methods Totally 60 patients undergoing surgery for cervical cancer were assigned to the control group and the observation group, with 30 cases in each group. Patients in two groups received conventional care, and those in the observation received rehabilitation interventions based on case management model. The patients' compliance with rehabilitation intervention at home was evaluated. The incidence of DVT was compared between two groups. Results The compliance rates of wearing stretch socks, Ankle joint pump exercise, off-bed activity, isometric muscular contraction exercise and fluid intake in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P <0.05). According to the color Doppler ultrasound, 4 cases in the control group and no patient in the observation group had developed DVT, with a significant difference (P < 0.05). Conclusion The case management model is effective to enhance the cervical cancer patients' compliance with rehabilitation interventions after surgery, therefore reducing the incidence of postoperative DVT.
