Abstract
- This study was carried out to evaluate the health-related physical fitness of the students studying at the school for the hearing impaired in Malatya, who do and do not do sports. 23 individuals between the ages of 6 and 15 years studying at Malatya Akşemsettin Primary and Secondary School for The Hearing Impaired participated in the study (doing sports = 16, not doing sports = 7). The blood pressure and pulse measurements, anatomical measurements, power measurements, and the measurements of other motoric features were carried out in evaluating the health-related physical fitness of the students participating in the study. SPSS 20.0 package program was used to analyze the data obtained in the study. After the normality analysis, the One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare the data obtained. It was found that after the maximal short exercise (MSE) there were significant differences in terms of the diastolic pressure and moving pulse values; upper and lower leg circumference; arm strength, back strength, hand grip, standing long jump, vertical jump, sit-and-reach, dynamic balance, pro-agility tests; and the visual and auditory reaction times. There was no significant difference between those doing sports and those not doing sports in terms of the measurements of systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, and pulse before MSE; and the systolic pressure measurements and the measurements of the shoulder, chest, abdominal, hip, and leg strength after MSE. As result of this study, in which we evaluated the health-related physical fitness of the students studying at the school for hearing impaired, who do and do not do sports; it can be stated that the individuals doing sports have better health-related physical fitness than the individuals not doing sports and that sports enhances the health-related physical fitness of the person with disabilities [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
