Abstract
- The article reveals the peculiarities of legitimation of power in transitional Ukrainian society. According to the Weberian tradition, it is determined that the legitimacy of power is based on the legitimacy of the social order, which is recognized and supported by the majority of citizens and functions as the basis of their social actions. It is noted that the peculiarities of the process of legitimation of public power in a transitional society contribute to the lack of common (recognized, agreed, etc.) rules of social action and activities of public power. In the Ukrainian post-communist society, there is a complicated process of forming a united picture of the world and determining the political and economic landmarks of further development. The challenges that arise in the process of legitimation of public power in a transitional society are identified: the ambivalence of the Ukrainian society (E. Golovakh), the legacy of totalitarianism in the actions of power (V. Polokhalo), a hybrid of competing 'pictures of the world' (M. Ryabchuk calls it 'post-Soviet schizophrenia'). It is emphasized that one of the major problems for the national governments of post-communist states is the process of legitimation / delegitimization of capitalism and international financial organizations, which, according to Stinchcombe, use the ideas of progress and wealth to prevent transitional societies from development.
