Abstract

The study of the relationship between human beings and the environment is an issue of great importance to scientific research. Different disciplines have addressed this problem with the specific approach and tools to each one of them. Ethnoecology is dedicated to study three important aspects in the relationships established between human groups and the environment: traditional ecological knowledge, productive activities and the belief system about natural resources. The objective of this document is to present an introductory approach to ethnoecology, including its definition, scope and research premises. According to the results obtained from this research, there are several findings that anticipate the critical role this science will play in rescuing knowledge and disseminate people's traditional wisdom in the future.
