Abstract

Given the film industry's insatiable hunger for men (and women) in tights, like Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, Catwoman, one can wonder if there are actually any comic book properties left untapped. The answer is yes — just ask attendees at Comic-Con International, the 35th annual megagathering running Thursday-Sunday at the San Diego Convention Center. While Sony's "Spider-Man 2" shatters boxoffice records, and Warner Bros. Pictures Inc.'s Friday release "Catwoman" and summer 2005 offering "Batman Begins" stoke fan interest, dozens of fresh comic book tides are poised to become the Hollywood blockbusters of the future.
