Abstract
- The article presents information about collected etchings of Charles Meryon, a painter. Exhibition of these etchings is visible at an art gallery on Sixteenth Street. These paintings teaches how to make street subjects look grand, impressive, interesting, without quackery or forcing. Meryon attains beauty by his feeling for broad flashes of light, and by knowing how to make the paper work for him, the calm basking gleam being simply bare surface, with a calculated environment. Meryon's skies are simple reliefs for his architecture; their values are exquisitely true and wise, but they have no quality in themselves.
