Abstract
- In recent years, the Romanian economy is part of the economies in Europe with notable economic growth. It is the economy where the industry plays a major role but also has great potential in the agricultural sector due to favorable natural conditions. Agriculture plays an important role in Romania, relative to the size of the rural population and to the primary natural resources they own. However, there are major differences between rural and urban areas, the former being marked by a significantly higher level of poverty and a correspondingly lower living standard. The development of agriculture and the provision of public goods in rural areas is therefore essential for Romania's economy and for achieving the objectives of social cohesion. Compared to other EU countries, the Romanian agricultural sector has a relatively high share in gross added value but has lagged behind in terms of labor productivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
