Abstract
- This study extends and examines the impact of cultural differences on the creation of social capital in technology transfer processes. The research builds on a culture-moderated social capital perspective. It examines cultural influences on different dimensions, levels and types of social capital in case studies of six American and nine Asian technology transfer offices. We build on previous work titled: ‘The role of culture-moderated social capital in technology transfer – insights from Asia and America’ (Grzegorczyk, 2019) and develop extended conceptualisation of social capital in technology transfer. We suggest that social capital conceptualisation should not be limited to a cognitive and structural dimension, but should also include affective and behavioural elements of individual’s attitudes. We argue that norms and values are themselves cultural constructs that can influence all three components of an individual’s attitudes towards relationships: cognitive, conative and behavioural as well as all levels of social capital (micro, meso and macro). We suggest that the path to successful technology transfer is highly culturally determined and that it is underrated in practice and theory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
