Abstract

The article presents information on various political developments in the U.S. during the early 1890's. The semi-humorous proposal of the "Tribune" that, if President Grover Cleveland is undoing a wrong in Hawaii, he ought to undo another by restoring their lands to the North American Indians, shows that the discussion of the Hawaiian affair is practically closed. The article also reports that when the sliver question was disposed of, it became inevitable that the banking question should be the uppermost of all financial topics in the national councils. Silver purchases had been favored in the West and South by reason of a supposed shortage of currency. People thought that they could see an increase of money if the mints were at work coining dollars on Government account, or if the Treasury was printing legal-tender notes based upon silver bullion.
