Abstract
- The arrival of a new book from the Scottish Society for Northern Studies is always a pleasure. Later in the volume is an interesting paper by Ryan Foster looking at the use of place name elements - I sætr i and - I ærgi i , both used for shieling sites, in Skye and the Outer Hebrides. The final linguistic paper is Arne Kruse's consideration of the mysterious place-name "Laithlind", found in the Irish sources and much discussed by scholars, which was used to describe the origins of some of the pivotal early Scandinavian characters.
