Abstract

This paper proposes a critical analysis of performance and impact of regulated ancillary service environment on Indian electricity grid introduced through Reserves Regulation Ancillary Services (RRAS) by CERC. It includes the analysis of qualification criteria for participating plants, scheduling process, criteria for invoking ancillary services, components of cost for providing ancillary service, settlement mechanism and financing of overall ancillary service system. The paper also discusses about the impact on grid frequency profile, management of congestion and ramps due to RRAS. The paper also proposes a future roadmap for RRAS in India based on the undertaken analysis in order to better integrate the increasing share of RE in the electricity mix in the country.
