Abstract
- The article presents some socio-economic updates as of January 7, 1897. One of the updates focuses on the growing symptoms of envy and the appropriate remedies. The near prospect of a social cataclysm mightily arouses prophetic ardor by making it once more possible to disturb the complacent and alarm the supine. Another update reports on the ninth annual meeting of the American Economic Association that was held at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland on December 28-31. One of its fundamental propositions was that much of the confusion in economic theory and of the discord in industrial life is due to inadequate expression by formal law of fundamental industrial rights.
