Abstract

Dewatering of the foundation pit is an important measure to ensure the safety of the excavation. Accurate prediction of the effect of dewatering on adjacent pile foundations is an important prerequisite for the safety of surrounding buildings. This paper presents a procedure which can consider water insulation effect of retaining structures to estimate the drawdown, the soil consolidation settlement, the negative friction on the pile shaft and the additional pile settlement, induced by dewatering. The well document calculation results are used to examine the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed analytical approach. The good agreement shows that the analytical approach presented in this study displays a satisfied consistence with the existing methods in calculating the settlement of surrounding soil and pile top. The influence factors of the pile settlement are also analyzed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
