Abstract
- The article explores author J.R.R. Tolkien's personal experience of the Great War in the context of the overall traumatic arc of his life. Topics discussed include specific vulnerabilities that Tolkien brought into the war, psychological effects of trauma, and examination on Tolkien's pre-war suffering from emotional loss, and his susceptibility to physical ailments particularly at times of stress.
