Abstract

This book thus successfully brings forward not only international debates in urban studies concerning digital cities, but also broader debates about how one might understand the digitalization of cities today, not forgetting that cities are forever in flux, complex at multiple scales, and continuously changing and transitioning. Scholars - including several contributors to this volume - have rightly pointed out that digital urbanism is a field often bolstered by the tech industry, where companies view digital environments as marketplaces for their products. Hopefully, this volume will reach members of this industry because it goes beyond a mere compendium of best practices, or simple appraisals of the latest devices, interfaces, platforms, or other automated, physical, mechanical, or robotic novelties.
