Abstract

Ocean pollution has become a global environment issues and now on the international agenda. Most of these objects are transported from inland into the sea by rivers. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the transportation and accumulation of the floating objects in rivers. This paper focuses on movement of floating objects in a meandering river reach with vegetation during floods of various intensities. Large Eddy Simulation (LES) is used so various complicating effects such as varying bed geometry, the roughness and the vegetation within the flow and on the bank, etc. can be directly reflected in the simulation. Several runs are conducted in order to discover how the floating objects are influenced by different factors including river flow rate, sizes and shapes of the objects, vegetation and etc. The effects of varying discharge rates is studied specifically the flow around the transport of floating objects are simulated by LES.
