Sarcopenia: new definitions, same limitations.

The authors discuss a study that examined the consequences of applying the new versus the original European Working Group on Sarcopenia (EWGSOP) guidelines in 144 geriatric inpatients aged 70 years and older. Highlights include definitions for sarcopenia released by three expert groups between 2010 and 2014, overlap of who is identified as sarcopenic by the definitions and differences in prevalence, and sufficiency of low muscle mass alone for the diagnosis of sarcopenia.
