Abstract
- Highlights from the article: Xanthougranulomatous inflammation is a rare condition, thought to be caused by chronic inflammation, and is pathologically characterized by multinucleated giant cells, polymorphonuclear plasma cells and lipid-laden macrophages (xanthoma cells). In previous reports, medical or conservative treatment with antibiotics is generally reported as insufficient treatment of xanthogranulomatosis. As the tumor in this case was benign, it was thought reasonable to try medical treatment before offering extensive surgery with a considerable risk of complications, although steroid based therapy is not evidence-based.
