Abstract

Perhaps it was Chip's curiosity about the lonely places - whether a deserted bay or human consciousness - that drew him to Slocum, to Porter and to the solitary adventures that defined much of his climbing life and that prepared him to attempt Mt. Asgard. The next day, Chip and Jeff took turns leading an unclimbed crack on the North Sixshooter. One of his former students, David Cooks --whom Chip and Monika affectionately called by his last name--had become Chip's full-time caretaker. [Extracted from the article]
