Abstract

This paper presents a new simple empirical model for the backscattering coefficients of skewed sea surfaces. Instead of using a complicated bispectrum function for the backscattering coefficient of a skewed sea surface, a simple modifying term is multiplied to the autocorrelation length of the surface. The unknown constants of the modifying term are obtained by com-paring the simple empirical model with an extensive database for various wind speeds, incidence angles, polarizations, and frequencies.
