Abstract
- The article presents information on recent socio-political developments from across the world. U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt's diffident announcement prior to the first Chicago Convention that he was the only Progressive who could win, takes on a ghastly hue in the light of the formation of the Wilson National Progressive Republican League by such men as Rudolph Spreckels of California and John J. Blame of Wisconsin. These men have been supporters of La Follette, and would therefore presumably prefer to vote for a Republican over a Democrat. Rumors of peace negotiations between Italy and Turkey persist, and despite official and semi-official contradictions, it seems more than probable that a measure of credence may be attached to them. The recent "conversations" in Switzerland, one is informed, were entirely unauthorized; but so were some of the conversations that preceded the settlement of the Russo-Japanese war. The best argument for peace is that neither side has anything to gain by prolonging the struggle.
