Abstract

We studied perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) and magnetization compensation temperature (T<subscript>M</subscript>) in Tb/CoFeB/MgO films. Interlayer antiferromagnetic coupling between Tb and CoFeB layers enables useful antiferromagnetic properties containing a CoFeB/MgO junctions, which are important for the practical applications to obtain giant tunnel magnetoresistance and voltage-control of magnetic anisotropy. While the PMA is mainly attributed to the interface at CoFeB/MgO, T<subscript>M</subscript> can be controlled by the thickness ratio of Tb and CoFeB layers as the magnetic moments of them are antiferromagnetically coupled. Our results provide many possibilities to add exciting new functions to ferrimagnetic spintronics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
