Abstract

The article presents news related to political issues. The effects of Italy's clever negotiations with Austria through the German Embassy in Rome, for the cession of the Trentino in compensation for permanent neutrality, are already beginning to be felt. One of the several objects of these negotiations is to persuade the Italian party hostile to intervention that permanent neutrality on the part of Italy is impossible. The Dutch Socialist party's eminent leader Mr. P.J. Troelstra, is one of the greatest of Dutch politicians, and a man who is a master both of tactics and of words. In a well-written pamphlet, he gave a lucid expose of the international and political situation in this time of war and explained why the party's policy, under these altered circumstances, was forced to follow a new course.
