Abstract

The Anglo-French fleet lies today in the opening of the Straits of Salamis and by those leaving may be plainly seen between the island of Psyttaleia and the mainland to the right of the entry of the outer harbor of Piraeus. From heights of the rocky promontory at the end of the peninsula of Piraeus, groups of Athenians watch it and the presence of the great fleet brings home to all the sea power of England and France combined.
