Abstract

This paper derives a maximum-likelihood decision rule to detect the signaling information conveyed by the bootstrap for an ATSC 3.0 system and proposes an iterative detection scheme to improve the detection performance. The proposed detection scheme iteratively averages the channel estimates for two consecutive bootstrap symbols by exploiting the previously detected symbol. The simulation results show that the proposed detection scheme can obtain a signal-to-noise ratio gain of approximately 2.0 dB at a frame error rate of $10^{-3}$ compared to the conventional detection scheme. Furthermore, this paper analyzes the computational complexity of the proposed detection scheme and presents the number of iterations sufficient to provide a good performance-complexity trade-off.
