German musical activity, forced for a number of years in the pervenu atmosphere of Berlin,Germany has at last returned to its most inspired source, Vienna, Austria. Here, where hunger still runs a close race with art, and money mocks with its impotence, is to be found that tremendous musical exchange formerly enjoyed by the Prussian capital; and here, too, are taking place the most enigmatical, and perhaps mast important, musical experiments in this age of musical experimentation. Berlin complains bitterly of her loss, and attributes it partly to the low value of the mark, partly to the continued un- friendliness of artists made inimical by the war.
