Abstract

he article presents information on the banking problems in Mexico. As the result of the irresolute and weak banking policy of the Government and the inability and corruption of many of the high officials in the banks of issue, these corporations reached the revolutionary period, with very few exceptions, in a state of total demoralization and certainly more than half of them in a condition of practical bankruptcy. It has been said that the old banks of issue were ruined by a compulsory loan of fifty-three million pesos imposed upon them in 1916.
