Abstract
- This article focuses on political and economic developments affecting the world. An autocratic government is bad enough everywhere but it becomes specially dangerous when it exists in an out-of-the-way corner of the world, free from supervision and without the corrective influence of a free press or an influential body of public opinion. In such places an autocratic government tends to be either a tyrant of a joke. Judge George Washington Williams of the Virgin Islands of the United States is both. Emile Vandervelde, Socialist, apparently is not to be the Premier of Belgium after all. His party emerged from the April 5, 1925 election the strongest party in Belgium but it is still a minority.
