Abstract

The article discusses dealing with gastroesophageal reflux (GER) during anesthesia in cats and dogs. GER is the condition of the passage of stomach contents into the esophagus due to dysfunction of the lower esophageal sphincter. The most frequent effects produced by anesthetic drugs in dogs include alterations in the production of saliva, nausea, vomiting, paralytic ileus, regurgitation, gastroesophageal reflux, and constipation.
