Abstract
- The article discusses books and authors. How much of the Pepys who is familiar through the "Diary" is to be come upon in the two volumes of the "Private Correspondence and Miscellaneous Papers of writer Samuel Pepys: 1679-1703," edited by J. B. Tanner from the Pepys Cockerell Collection, may be gathered from three facts: that most of the letters published therein are by others than Pepys himself, that a great many of the subjects discussed have only a remote connection with his familiar life, and that when he does speak he speaks chiefly out of his seventh decade.
