Abstract

PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), the case study on this work, operates chainedfactories on its automotive manufacturing business in Indonesia. They are located in Sunter Jakarta (2 Plants) and Karawang West Java (4 Plants). One of the challenges we are faced in smart chained-factories implementation is the quality of services (QoS) of the network infrastructure used in terms of delay. Real-time network techniques are required for data transmission between intelligent equipment and manufacturing cloud. To address the problem, we propose a fog computing architecture for smart chained-factories that employs multiple cloudlets in order to minimize latency and optimize energy consumption. Result achieved was a smart chained-factories architecture to support making Indonesia 4.0 initiative. The experimental results show that the architecture with cloudlet (fog architecture) is approximately 137 times faster than architecture without cloudlet (cloud architecture). And the cloud energy consumption of the fog architecture is approximately 82 times lower than cloud architecture. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
