Abstract
- This paper discusses a cell loss recovery method using FEC. The technique applies VP-based FEC and recovers discarded cells that were lost because of buffer overflow at the ATM nodes in the transport network. This paper presents the FEC code format and analyzes the performance, with emphasis on the design of coding matrix and FEC code. Next, an improved structure is presented in which FEC is applied only to the paths with higher quality requirements. This improves loss recovery performance at higher traffic load and reduces coding matrix size. The analyses also include the aggregate processing delay in the cell multiplexer and FEC codec. © 2000 Scripta Technica, Electron Comm Jpn Pt 1, 84(3): 77–88, 2001 [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
