Abstract

This has been a hard trip for all but a handful of the twenty-odd correspondents accompanying U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Reactionary news butchers working for reactionary papers, most of them were sent for the express purpose of producing unfavorable dispatches. Particularly were they under orders to cook up stories reporting a great tidal wave of popular outrage over the Black-Klan exposé. They have found it tough going. From Chicago west there is no sign of excitement over the Black matter. The feeling seems to be general that the Alabaman was appointed because of his long and outstanding liberal record in the Senate and that his one time membership in the Klan, while unfortunate, does not establish his present unfitness for the bench.
