The past in the present.

An editorial is presented on the journal's mission, and its contribution to developing education as a field of study and the dissemination of education research. It argues that the journal has helped in the development of a transnational dialogue with new and experienced scholars, and has published special issues in various fields including education and development, education and global justice. It discusses the journal's vision, and the newly established Institute of Education.
