Abstract
- The negative refraction phenomenon in electromagnetic band gap (EBG)-like structures is studied. It is found that the conventional “unit-cell” approach for calculating bandgap properties is not sufficient for predicting negative refraction. In this paper, we present an analysis of EBG-like structures using the “entire-cell” concept in order to consider how spatial-harmonics effects can enhance negative refraction prediction. The results obtained using numerical simulation show good agreement with the theory. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
